1st wendy.network virtual residency

Adapt, change, and cope

March 1st – March 28th 2021

During this disorienting time dominated by the Covid-19 pandemic, with frequently changing restrictions on the freedom of assembly and movement, wendy.network is pleased to announce a virtual residency program as a way of encouraging artist adaptability and providing a platform for artistic output. This residency is conducted in the virtual online space, where artists will research and/or create work with the intention of building international networks and to have time for collaboration and experimentation. In addition to interaction between participating artists, a team of guest faculty will provide support and critical feedback, should the artist desire it.

Our aim is to keep this cost-free and easily accessible, where artists can work independently or collaboratively with novel ideas and re-think their artistic process in the context of a virtual space. We are making a platform dedicated to artist exposure through online publication, a space where artists can adapt, change, and cope with the new challenges currently facing the world of contemporary artists.

We provide each artist with virtual studio space on wendy.network’s discord account, while also promoting work in progress, artist events, and other relevant material via our social media channels throughout the virtual wendy.network residency.

Guidelines:

  • The wendy.network virtual residency hosts six artists in residence for four weeks.
  • Applicants are asked to join the wendy.network and setup a meaningful profile to be considered.
  • Each resident receives an artist stipend of €400 (€200 + KONJ worth €200).
  • Each resident is expected to treat the program like any other on-site residency. Artists should be prepared to dedicate time each day for research, creation, and thinking on ideas and projects around the topic of adapt, change, and cope in this context. Additionally, there will be meetings with the guest faculty and your fellow participants.
  • Each resident is asked to submit materials weekly, documenting works in progress for our various social media channels.
  • Each resident is invited to participate in an artist interview feature on the wendy.network.
  • Residents can create whatever they like during the residency, but any kind of hate speech and discriminatory contents will not be tolerated.

The virtual wendy.network residency is intended for artists working in media that suffered a major impact since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic who want to re-think their approach to artmaking and find solutions to working as an artist within these new challenges. There is no age limit for applicants. Artists from anywhere in the world, with access to a computer and internet are invited to apply!
