October 2021 - Artists of the Month

Each month the wendy.network selects three artists within its growing community. The entirety of the month is dedicated to the artists, their work and their passion.

October features: Autumn Palen, Suresh Babu Maddilety, Inês Um Dois Três.

spotlighted –> Autumn Palen

French-speaking California native with a penchant for crafting absurdist feminist projects.

‘My interest in creating art first stemmed from a desire to entertain others. In elementary school, I would create comics for my classmates at lunchtime, and wait in eager anticipation for their reaction as they read through the pages.

Nearly 20 years after that first creative spark, the desire to reach others still holds strong. I aim to use my work as a glue of sorts: finding and displaying commonalities, to unite others; to bind the viewer to the viewed. Conjuring, highlighting, reviving tethers to shrink the space between us.‘

‘As we explore the fundamental question – if energy can neither be created nor destroyed, can we use this very energy that we generate in whatever form to change the nature of things substances around us? My journey started at this very question while I pondered over the transient nature of all things around us, including ourselves and our thoughts. Isn’t time the very cause of decay and transience?’

‘Welcome aboard the ‘Ship of Theseus’, where a substance is made into another substance altogether by mere passing of time let alone the addition of newer elements or induced thoughts. Our dear Heraclitus furthers this enigma by asking the question – Can you step into the same river twice?’

‘What if we can hypothesize that the energy possessed by that substance is a form of its innate desire to change itself, by which it lets itself freely unite with other substances and form a new entity. For the perceivable, the union of these two substances would be like an attack on some opinions that are hidden somewhere deep in our minds and incessantly keep changing them. Here in this event, I feel I have provoked a desire to change by inducing this very energy into different substances – by experimenting and creating new substances through my experiments – The social liquid. An amalgamation of science and philosophy which have been my areas of interest has pushed me to be a self-made Visual philosophical scientist.’

Inês Um Dois Três

Inês is a Portuguese Artist, based in Lisbon. In her illustrations, she creates a safe and magical realm where celestial bodies live a burst into compositions full of color and symbolism.

‘Inês Um Dois Três is a Portuguese Artist, based in Lisbon.  In an intuitive way, her work explores sensations and emotions. In her illustrations she creates a safe and magical realm where celestial bodies live and burst into compositions full of color and symbolism. The sun, the moon and the natural elements are recurrent in her work leading to a spiritual experience inspired by ancestral archetypes and mystical aspects.’
